The Shitamachi Tanabata Matsuri (下町七夕まつり) is a tanabata event held along the street which connects Ueno and Asakusa. Many large tanabata festivals are held throughout Japan in July and August, and this tanabata event is a well-known one in urban Tokyo area.

Shitamachi Tanabata Matsuri

At the Shitamachi Tanabata Matsuri, which is held in early July along the Kappabashi-hondori street which connects Ueno and Asakusa, the street will be decorated with colorful streamers. On weekends, many attractions like processions and street performances will be held along this 1.2-kilometer (0.7-mile) street.
