Kyu-Saru-shima Fortress [旧猿島砲台]

The whole of the Saru-shima Island, 1.8km/1.1mi offshore, used to be the grounds of a Shinto shrine, which was relocated to the mainland when the island was fortified in the Meiji era. After WWII the fortress was abolished. Take the ferry departing every one hour, 1300yen round-trip (Saturday, Sunday and holidays only from December to February and daily otherwise), to get to this island. 200 yen will also be required as admission.

Former Kannonzaki Fortress [観音崎砲台跡]

The area that used to be the Kannonzaki Fortress constructed in the Meiji era is transformed into Kannonzaki Park now. Some of the ruins of artillery batteries still remain.
