Yushima Tenjin (湯島天神), formally Yushima Tenmangu (湯島天満宮), is a popular Shinto shrine near the Shinobazu-no-ike Pond in Ueno Park. This shrine is well-known for its apricot blossom in February to March and chrysanthemum in November. Its Reitaisai, or the Annual Grand Festival, is also somewhat large. For details about this shrine, see the article on Yushima Tenjin Shrine.
Though it's not so large a shrine, about 300 ume (Japanese apricots) are planted in its precincts, and from February to March, when these ume trees blossom, the Ume Matsuri (梅まつり), or the apricot festival, is held annually.
On weekends and on February 11, which is a national holiday, many performances are dedicated to the shrine.
