Tochoji Temple
Tochoji (東長寺), founded in 1594, is a small Soto Zen temple located in Shinjuku-ku.
Its precincts are modern and at the same time traditional.
There have emerged a lot of temple complexes made with concrete since the end of WWII, and this temple's is one of those which blended a modern design with a traditional one well.
It's an 8-minute walk from Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line Shinjuku-gyoen Station, or a 7-minute walk from Toei Shinjuku Line Akebonobashi Station.
Sanmon is the main gate of the temple.
Hondo is the main hall of the temple. Surrounded by Sanmon, Hondo and corridors is a water garden.
Shoro is where a huge bell to tell time is hung.
Tahoto is a kind of pagoda.
